Or maybe the really easy option is to just dig in a gravel drain field into the garden side of the walkway. Heater cable? (Providing this is legal, which it may be in this area. (maybe a 50ft run, but not sure if I have enough elevation between bottom of sidewalk and the city gutter.) This might freeze up and clog too. One of the corrugated tubes has a dip in the middle of the run which isn't ideal, but otherwise during the summer this configuration works decently for the time being. Currently for each gutter, corrugated tubing is run underground, under the sidewalk, for approximately 20 feet where it discharges out the side of the hill approximately 18 inches lower than where it began (it's not a steep hill). Install underground PVC that drains from downspout to the city gutter. I have two downspouts whose discharge I need to get past a sidewalk. Would it have to be buried below frost depth (around 4ft)? I'm wondering how this will perform in frozen conditions. Install PVC under sidewalk and hook it up to an underground dry well. What happens when this is buried under snow? The lawn is currently at (or slightly above) the opposite sidewalk side, so I figure this option will require landscaping in a gravel drain field on the downstream side. Install slotted drain so that downspout drains across sidewalk. This is a main entrance to the house and is becoming a big problem.Įvery option I can come up with gets stumped by the water freezing before I can get it away from the sidewalk. This garden bed fills with ice and overflows across the sidewalk. ![]() ![]() ![]() Problem: During winter, roof snow melt is collected into downspout which empties into a small garden bed that lies between the foundation and the sidewalk.
